Aspect Ratio Explained

Aspect Ratio is the term used to describe the height to length relationship of an image.

A square has an aspect ratio of 1:1. There is one unit of height to every one unit of length.

Images taken on a digital camera usually have a different aspect ratio to those shot on 35mm film.

DIGITAL sizes usually have an aspect ratio of 3:4
35mm FULL FRAME sizes have an aspect ratio of 2:3

If you do not choose a print size with the same aspect ratio it will result in the cropping of your image.

If you are unsure you can opt for WHITE BORDERS when ordering your prints.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF YOU HAVE CUT AND CROPPED YOUR IMAGES THE ASPECT RATIOS WILL HAVE CHANGED.

WE WILL CROP ANY IMAGES THAT DO NOT FIT INTO YOUR SELECTED PRINT SIZE UNLESS YOU OPT FOR WHITE BORDERS.

Digital
Digital sizes have an aspect ratio of 3:4. Most digital cameras store images in this way although it is possible to change the aspect ratio to 2:3 on some digital cameras.

35mm Full Frame

35mm Full Frame sizes have an aspect ratio of 2:3. (A 6x4 print for example has two units of height for every three units of length and therefore has an aspect ratio of 2:3.)

Please note: If you do not select the correct print size for your images they will be cropped or you can opt for white borders on the order form if you are worried about losing too much of the image.
